London’s Olympic Stadium (the Olympic Stadium) will be the iconic centrepiece of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games (the 2012 Games), hosting the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the track & field athletics events. During the 2012 Games, it will be viewed by millions of people around the world and will resonate with memories of sporting prowess and human endeavour long after the 2012 Games are over. The Stadium that will be in existence on the current site of the Olympic Stadium from 1st January 2013 (the Stadium) will become a fully operational 60,000 seat multi-purpose venue and retain athletics at its core, as was promised in London’s successful 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championship bid
The Olympic Park Legacy Company Limited (OPLC) has now commenced a competition inviting bids from parties wishing to use the Stadium after the 2012 Games. Interested parties are invited to bid for a concession to provide sporting, entertainment and/or cultural content. OPLC will select bidders to use the Stadium by way of one or more concessions in the Stadium for a minimum term of 5 years and a maximum term of 99 years.
In legacy, the Stadium will remain as a publicly-owned asset and OPLC has begun preliminary discussions with the London Borough of Newham over a possible joint venture to manage the Stadium. There will be a separate tender competition inviting bids to operate the Stadium once the concessions have been granted.
The deadline for interested parties to register their interest has now passed and no further registrations can now be accepted.
The next phase of the competition will involve registered Interested Parties engaging with OPLC where required ahead of submitting their bids by 23rd March 2012.
OPLC intends to appoint the successful bidder in May 2012.
