The Localism Act 2011 provided for the Legacy Corporation to be given planning powers. The London Legacy Development Corporation (Planning Functions) Order 2012, effective from 1 October 2012, granted the Legacy Corporation the full range of planning functions which a local planning authority would normally have responsibility for, including those of plan making.
In becoming a local planning authority, the Legacy Corporation has taken on the planning functions of the Olympic Delivery Authority, the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and the London Boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest for the land within its area. During the life of the Legacy Corporation all planning applications in this area will need to be made to the Legacy Corporation.
